SJAC hosts a special event honouring a Saint John original -

Saint John native Herzl Kashetsky will be honoured at a special reception this spring right here at SJAC. Co-sponsored by the Centre, the City of Saint John Cultural Affairs Office, and friends of the artist, this cocktail reception will be a chance for the citizens of Saint John to celebrate one of their own.

Titled, “Celebrating Herzl: Saint John Honours Herzl Kashetsky”, this special occasion will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 7:00-9:30pm. Tickets are $40, available for sale now at SJAC. Only 250 tickets will be sold, advance ticket sales only.

Herzl Kashetsky was the 2011 recipient of the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation’s prestigious Strathbutler Award, which is presented in recognition of New Brunswick artists who have achieved excellence in visual arts while having made a substantial contribution to the province over a significant period of time.

An accomplished professional, Mr. Kashetsky has been recognized as a preeminent portrait, still life and commissioned artist, and was elected as one of New Brunswick’s top thirty painters. His recent exhibition, “Glitter and Gloom” at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, chronicling his career over the years through his sketchbook drawings, has been documented in a book about the exhibition.
