Statement

We see beauty in animals all around us, but insects are usually seen as somehow alien and detestable. Perhaps this moth is one insect that can be considered alien and somehow beautiful.

Biography

Roger Smith was born and raised in Fredericton, NB, where he attended Fredericton High School and then the University of New Brunswick where he obtained a BSc in Biology and MSc in Plant Pathology. While working on his MSc, he started taking photographs for the UNB Biology Department, and he soon realized that photography was a more interesting pursuit than his research on potato blight. He has recently retired after 40 rewarding years as the scientific photographer for the Biology Department. Roger is a member of the SilverFish Photography Collective and Photo Fredericton camera club. He became a juried member of the NB Crafts Council in 2001.
